GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering and it is one of the prestigious exams of engineering in India. GATE rank will be useful in multiple ways such as 1. For getting into M.Tech courses, 2. Direct entry into PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings: which are government owned companies) by successful clearing of interview if any, 3. For getting into PhD program, 4. Entry for higher studies in abroad/foreign universities. PSUs are considering GATE score as minimum eligibility criteria and giving first preference to the GATE qualified candidates only. Note: it is not guarantee that GATE qualification only is the main criterion for getting onto PSUs and you may/may not get appointed in PSUs. GATE score evaluates the general and technical knowledge of a candidate but it is not assuring that all GATE qualified candidates will get the job.
In this article I would like to explain the importance of GATE score in Indian organizations.
PSU’s Selection Criteria
Based on the GATE score, PSUs will shortlist the candidate(s) and call them to attend for interviews directly without written test. I came to know that there was a significant increase in the recruitment through GATE score from past 5 years. Engineering graduates should remember that the GATE score is the most important parameter for selection in the top PSUs.
Here is the list of PSUs which are recruiting the candidates through GATE.
