Interview with Dr. Guanghua Han

What are your strengths?

I have strong interest in doing research in multiple research field, I believe my strengths in research in sensitive intuition, good cooperation, and lots of experience in modeling and data analysis.

What are your goals?

My goal in career is getting more papers published in ranked-top international journals and to be an expert in my research field, like food safety and risk analysis in supply chain.

Where do you want to be in next 5 years time?

I want to be a respected teacher in my university and would like ten or more master students under my supervision to graduate and have a good job.

What 3 positive words would your colleagues/friends say about you?

Positive, smart, hard-working.

What is your greatest achievement?

I had 6 works published in top journals in management science field  when I was a Phd student, it is my most satisfying achievement for now.

What & who motivates you?

My love in research motivates me, I am so happy to contribute to research field and have new findings during the process. Most importantly, I think my most motivation in my job is my students’ achievements, the most successful part of me is them in my opinion.

What do you want to develop about yourself?

I would like to have more abilities to deal with real business issues. This is why I am planning to spend more time in cooperation with companies to observe how business runs.

How do you handle pressure/stress?

To stay in somewhere quiet alone, or have a good sleep until I feel better.

What do you like to do outside of work?

My most favorite job is a teacher, which I am working as. I like to hiking outside of work/

Tell me about how a professional qualification you have obtained has helped you personally?

I grew in a farmer’s family, which is relatively poor in economics when I was young. My parents work hard and positive under all conditions. I and my old brother knew that working-hard is the key to success in career and families when we were children.

Tell me how you organize your work and schedule your time?

I have a plan in the beginning of every week, and update the plan in every night before getting sleep. I think it works, I can find what is my first priority in the next day, and make me very efficient in work and daily life. 

Describe a situation where you were successful in getting people to work together effectively?

My research team includes 10 master and PhD students, it is not easy to get them together and have all of them put all of them efforts in their researches as a student. I usually meet each one separately and clearly tell them what to do in next step. Once there is a progress or a setback, the student report to me and we plan what to do in the next.

Describe a situation in which you were a member (not a leader) of a team and a conflict arose within the team. What did you do?

I will talk with the team member directly, and find a way to solve the problem. I think frequent communication and kind understanding with each other are always a way in dealing with conflicts.

Tell me about a time when you were asked to do something that you disagreed with?

Sometimes, I really do what I do not fully support and acceptable. I think people can do something he/her do not fully agree with, but he/her should clearly know his/her what is acceptable. If the issue to do is not acceptable to him/her, he/she should not to do that.

What your researchers should develop in research?

There exist lots of great researchers all over the world. I think the most important part for them is to let the public to know them, such that it is helpful to encourage people to learn more knowledge and support the work of scientists’. I think researchers should positively share their researches and findings in many channels, like radios, broadcasts, newspapers, etc.

May I know about your research students? How many members awarded with the degree PhD/M.Phil?

For now, 4 students get their master degree under my supervision.

What are the qualities of an ideal student/ learner?

A student cannot be very smart, he/she is better to be hard-working. I always think everyone can have achievements when he/she would like to spend time on the issue that he/she interested in.

What are the qualities of an ideal teacher?

I think an ideal teacher should be kind in personality, it is the most important part when my students get progress in lives and studies.

Which stage of education for a child is important?

I think the child in their 3-15 ages is very creative and curious in the world, good education in that period can help them to build up their personality and good behaviour.

Does one education system suit for all set of students across the world?

I do not think so. The people in different regions have different customs and strengths in physical body, so the education system in different part of the world can be different.

What is the goal of education?

Education firstly helps the new generation to be a good man in the society, following the laws and social morals. Also education enhances the ability of humans to know the unknowns.

How to define a success?

I think a person who contribute good to the society and others, and do not regret when he/she is dead, is successful.

How to handle the failure?

Does a person daily routine has an impact in learning?

Finally, what do you suggest the young/upcoming researchers?

As I said before, I think a great researcher should firstly to be a good man with kind and upstanding conscience in personality. Then, a good man always has good luck.
